Athens-Clarke County Unified Government Assistant Manager Jestin Johnson has resigned effective June 12, 2019 to accept a position as the Deputy Chief Operating Officer with the City of Atlanta. In this position, Johnson will assist the City of Atlanta's Chief Operating Officer in planning and directing City operations and functions as assigned by Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.

UGA Startup Gateway Generates $531M in Economic Value

The University of Georgia’s startup program generates economic value of more than half a billion dollars annually, according to a new analysis. Startup companies created through Innovation Gateway, the university’s arm for research commercialization, have an economic impact of $531 million across the United States, including $322 million in the state of Georgia.

Creature Comforts Brewing Co. is an Athens, Ga.-based brewery offering finely balanced artisanal beers since April 2014. In an effort to grow its wood cellar and specialty brand program, Creature Comforts expanded its barrel facility with additional equipment in January 2019. The brewery added three foeders as well as a state-of-the-art bottling line to its original location in downtown Athens.
