Henry Young Appointed Vice Provost at UGA

Henry N. Young, Kroger Professor and department head of clinical and administrative pharmacy in the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy, has been appointed vice provost in the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. He will begin his new role Aug. 1.
A nationally recognized scholar and academic leader, Young brings extensive experience in research, teaching and academic leadership to the role. As vice provost, he will work closely with university leaders to support faculty excellence, student success and initiatives that advance UGA’s academic mission.
“Dr. Young’s leadership, collaborative approach and commitment to the University of Georgia have made a meaningful impact across campus,” said Benjamin C. Ayers, the university’s senior vice president for academic affairs and provost. “His experience and success in leading academic programs and developing strategic partnerships will serve the university well in this important role.”
In his new position, Young will oversee the Office of Academic and Community Engagement, lead faculty and staff development initiatives and advance programs that strengthen campus engagement among students, faculty and staff. Drawing upon his extensive experience in healthcare scholarship, research and service, Young will also contribute to the university’s health and medicine initiatives.
Young will oversee the university’s portfolio of signature lectures and events, including the Charter Lecture, Ethics Week, Founders Day and the Mary Frances Early Lecture. Additionally, he will chair the Electric Mobility Executive Council, oversee State of the Art Conference Grants and direct the Study in a Second Discipline initiative, which promotes interdisciplinary research and teaching.
He will also serve as faculty advisor for the Graduate and Professional Scholars program, supporting student academic engagement and leadership across the university.
Young was named department head of clinical and administrative pharmacy in 2021 after serving in an interim capacity beginning in 2020. His research focuses on health communication, medication-use behaviors, health services and health outcomes, with particular emphasis on improving patient quality of life. His scholarship has contributed to advancements in medication use, patient outcomes and health care communication.
Young has received numerous accolades for his teaching, research and service, including the 2023 Engaged Scholar Award from UGA Public Service and Outreach and the 2022 President’s Fulfilling the Dream Award. Professionally, he is a fellow of the American Pharmacists Association and recently completed a term on the organization’s Board of Trustees.
Before joining UGA, Young was a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy. He earned a doctorate in pharmaceutical sciences with a concentration in pharmacy administration from the University of Florida and completed postdoctoral training at the University of California, Davis Center for Health Services Research in Primary Care. He also earned a certificate in health communication and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida.
