Athens-Clarke Commissioners Balk at Proposed Downtown Projects
Friday, March 11th, 2016
Two projects seen as part of implementing a master plan to guide the development of downtown Athens for the next decade and beyond got a cool reception from Athens-Clarke County commissioners at their non-voting Tuesday work session.
The downtown master plan is a $30,000 effort funded by the Athens Downtown Development Authority. Spearheaded by Jack Crowley, a professor in the University of Georgia’s College of Environment + Design, the plan evolved over a number of months, involved significant public input, and was accepted by the mayor and commission in 2014.
