Building Georgia’s Workforce by Investing in Foster Youth
Tuesday, March 3rd, 2026
Each year, hundreds of young people age out of Georgia’s foster care system with no safety net and no one to call when challenges arise. However, many of them are finding their path forward inside Georgia’s technical colleges, enrolling in programs in healthcare, welding, logistics, cybersecurity, and other high-demand fields. Commissioner Greg Dozier sees these students across the Technical College System of Georgia and recognizes what they represent: a resilient, motivated segment of Georgia’s future workforce.
They are not looking for a handout. They are looking for a pathway to stability, purpose, and long-term employment.
Commissioner Greg Dozier sees these students across the Technical College System of Georgia and recognizes what they represent: a resilient, motivated segment of Georgia’s future workforce.
He understands that when former foster youth complete their credentials, they fill critical roles in industries that keep our state competitive. That is why he has been a strong advocate for the Fostering Success Act and its work to ensure these students have the stability required to finish what they start.
Commissioner Dozier is also challenging Georgia’s business community to step up. Through a dollar-for-dollar Georgia state income tax credit that costs nothing, companies and individuals can redirect a portion of their tax liability to fund housing, transportation, counseling, education, and other essential wraparound services.
Commissioner Dozier’s message is clear: supporting foster youth in technical education is not simply charitable. It is a strategic investment in Georgia’s workforce and in the long term strength of our economy. Learn more at fosteringsuccessact.org.
