Congressman Drew Ferguson: The Numbers Don’t Lie - Georgians Can Vote with Confidence
Thursday, October 22nd, 2026
As voters across our state now head to the polls for the midterm elections, one question lingers: Can we trust our election system?
The answer is an emphatic yes.
Georgians have every reason to enter this election season with confidence. Georgia doesn’t merely meet the expectations for election security and integrity. Our state has become a national leader.
That reputation isn’t built on political rhetoric. It is grounded in data, independent evaluations, strong safeguards, and the dedication of election professionals in all 159 counties.
Organizations across the political spectrum have recognized Georgia’s progress. The Heritage Foundation has ranked Georgia among the nation’s leaders in election integrity, while the nonpartisan Center for Election Innovation and Research has recognized Georgia as a top performer in election administration.
That success starts with the foundation of any secure election system: clean and accurate voter rolls.
A comprehensive state audit released this month by the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts found a remarkable 99.9% accuracy rate in the voter-registration records it examined. This is powerful evidence that Georgia’s voter-list maintenance systems and protocols are working.
That level of accuracy is not accidental. Georgia election officials employ ongoing quality-control measures, including duplicate-record checks, transaction reviews, address validation, and information sharing between state and county officials.
Technology has strengthened those efforts.
In 2023, the Secretary of State’s office implemented the Georgia Registered Voter Information System, or GARViS, which maintains the state’s official voter-registration database and connects state and county election officials with outside data sources, including the Department of Driver Services. That allows important voter information to be transmitted and reviewed more efficiently.
The audit also found that 99.8% of nearly 7.9 million voter-registration records contained a Georgia REAL ID number, which is another important tool for maintaining accurate records and verifying voter information.
Georgia continues to expand its citizenship-verification safeguards. Statewide reviews conducted from 2024 through April 2026 incorporated information from juror affidavits, Department of Driver Services records, and the federal Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements, or SAVE, program.
Technical improvements to SAVE have made that system more useful for Georgia election officials, including the ability to process larger batches of records using Social Security numbers as unique identifiers.
As the Secretary of State said following the audit’s release: “Election integrity isn't a slogan. It is the daily work of checking the voter rolls, verifying eligibility, sharing information with our counties and continually improving our systems.”
That is exactly what election security requires.
Behind every audit, database update, and address verification are trained professionals—our neighbors and local county workers—doing the often-unseen work required to protect the integrity of every election.
Fair and secure elections are a cornerstone of our constitutional republic. Voters should know that the process is secure, eligible voters can participate, lawful votes are counted, and safeguards exist to detect and prevent illegal voting.
Georgia has worked for years to build an election system worthy of that confidence. The latest audit provides concrete evidence that those efforts are working.
Early voting has begun, and Georgians can head to the polls knowing their state has built an election system designed around accuracy, transparency, accessibility, and security. It’s accessible, fair, and worthy of trust.
