Oconee County Elementary School has been named a Bright Spot by The 74, a national nonprofit education newsroom, in recognition of its third-grade literacy achievement.

The Bright Spots project recognizes schools across the country where third-grade literacy performance exceeded expectations based on The 74’s analysis. Oconee County Elementary was identified as a Bright Spot through an analysis of data from nearly 42,000 schools serving more than 3 million students nationwide.

“Oconee County Elementary’s recognition as a Bright Spot reflects the strong instruction, high expectations, and dedication to student success that we see throughout the school,” said Superintendent Melissa Butler. “We are proud of the students, teachers, and staff at OCES for this recognition and of the work taking place across our district to build strong readers and provide students with the foundation they need for continued success.”

Oconee County Elementary has also received state and national recognition for student achievement, including being named a 2025 Title I Distinguished School by the Georgia Department of Education and a National Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School of Excellence.
