The Clarke County Board of Education will hold its next scheduled monthly work session and business meeting on Thursday, Aug. 13, with the work session beginning at 5 p.m., followed by the board meeting at 7 p.m.

Board meetings are held at the Clarke County School District administrative offices building, 595 Prince Ave., Athens, in the Vernon Payne Meeting Hall. Meetings are open to the public and are also livestreamed and available for on-demand viewing on the CCSD YouTube channel. View the online archive of board meetings. 

During its work session on Thursday, the board will hear an update from members of CCSD’s Business Services Division regarding progress made on the recommendations from a 2022 disparity study that evaluated participation from women- and minority-owned businesses in district contract and procurement opportunities. Based on recommendations from the study’s final report released in 2023, the district has focused on expanding vendor outreach, strengthening community partnerships, increasing access to procurement opportunities, and improving vendor education and support.

The board will also: 

• review recommended policy updates put forward by district staff

• review items designated for individual action during the business meeting, including grant applications, federal funding allocations, and a list of upcoming school field trips requiring overnight lodging.

• hold an executive session between the work session and business meeting, if needed.

During the business meeting, the board will:

• receive and approve the district’s most recent financial reports

• receive updates on district projects funded by special-purpose local-option sales tax for education (E-SPLOST) dollars

• receive updates from the Superintendent and Board President

• receive reports from community advisory and oversight boards

• receive comments from members of the public.

Public comment

The public comment period is for any agenda item or any topic relevant to the business of the board. Anyone wishing to provide public input may sign up prior to the meeting in the Vernon Payne Meeting Hall. Speakers are limited to three minutes each and must provide their name, place of residence, contact information, and the topic on which they wish to speak.
