West Broad School Complex Revitalization Project Recommended
Thursday, June 18th, 2026
The building committee tasked with leading the revitalization project for the historic West Broad School Complex has recommended a revitalization plan to the Clarke County Board of Education to include:
-
A renovated Minor Street building to house additional Athens Community Career Academy classrooms and office spaces and community meeting rooms.
-
A renovated Campbell Lane Building to house student gathering space and host events
-
Construction of a brand-new building to house the relocated Advanced Manufacturing and Welding pathway lab space and a lab for the new Construction pathway for CCSD students
-
A memory plaza/courtyard between the back sides of the Minor Street and Campbell Lane buildings with historical markers and plaques
-
A multipurpose recreational field
-
Additional parking and a loop for buses and fire trucks.
This revitalization concept emerged from a group of plans developed during the public design charrette in March 2026. CCSD is moving forward with obtaining pricing for the plan and is currently eyeing a start on construction in early 2027 with the intent to have the campus fully open and ready for use by the start of the 2028-29 school year.
