Athens-Clarke County to Host Drop-In Public Input Meeting
Thursday, June 18th, 2026
The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government (ACCGov) will host a public input meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 4:00-7:30 PM at the Dougherty Street Government Building Auditorium, located at 120 W. Dougherty Street, for the new Judicial Center.
The meeting will take place on the selected location for the new Judicial Center and will provide an opportunity for residents to share input on the center’s design. ACCGov is particularly seeking feedback on the exterior appearance of the building and public gathering spaces, such as lobbies, entry areas, and other spaces used by the public.
The meeting will focus on public-facing areas of the facility rather than internal office layouts or departmental workspaces. Input received will help inform the design team as the project moves forward.
Residents may drop in at any time during the meeting.
New Judicial Center Public Input Meeting

Dougherty Street Government Building

At the June 2, 2026, Regular Session meeting, the Mayor and Commission voted to approve 120 W. Dougherty Street as the site for the new Judicial Center. The site is owned by ACCGov and is the current site of the building that houses the Building Inspections & Permits Department, Planning Department, and some Transportation and Public Works Department staff.
Voters approved the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) 2020 program that included some funding for the construction of a new Judicial Center. The new Judicial Center is planned to eventually house all of the judicial functions, which have grown beyond the space constraints and security needs of the 1910-era Courthouse on East Washington Street.
The 218,215 square foot building and related space for the new Judicial Center has an estimated budget of $225 million. Current tentative timeline calls for planning and design over the next 18 months with construction to begin by early 2028 and completion of the Judicial Center by 2030.
