Piedmont has expanded access to primary care options with the opening of a new location in Athens, Piedmont Primary Care at Old Jefferson Road.

The new clinic is located at 3320 Old Jefferson Rd, Bldg. 300C in Athens.

“We are excited to be able to expand access to quality care in Athens as we know patients in some areas of the state can have long waits for an appointment to be seen by a primary care provider,” said Michelle Fisher, Piedmont’s President of Primary Care & Retail Services. “Having a network of primary care providers close to home will help our community stay ahead of their long-term health by providing convenient access.”

Primary care providers (PCPs), including physicians and advanced practice practitioners, are important in helping to manage the overall health of patients. PCPs have a wide range of responsibilities including regular checkups, developing treatment plans to help to prevent diseases, and coordinating care with specialists, in addition to diagnosing and treating illnesses, injuries and other health conditions.

“Giving patients more access to primary care providers helps them stay on top of their health. This new practice is a real win for our community,” said Michael Burnett, CEO of Piedmont Athens. “Primary care providers focus on personalized, preventative care, and that can make a positive difference in the long-term health of our patients.”

Oluwabukola Ibukunoluwa Taiwo, M.D., internal medicine physician currently practicing in Monroe, is joining the practice and is now accepting new patients at Piedmont Primary Care at Old Jefferson Road.

Dr. Taiwo earned her medical degree from the Obafemi Awolowo College of Health Sciences, OOUTH, Ogun State, Nigeria and completed her internal medicine residency at Piedmont Athens Regional. She is board certified in internal medicine and has a special interest in adult chronic disease management.

Appointments are available for services such as well and sick visits, annual exams, vaccinations and immunizations, preventative care, women’s health and wellness, and more. Patients will have access to same-day appointments, online scheduling, and video visits for more convenient access to their Piedmont care team.
