Athens Academy Students Win Prestigious Art Awards

The Athens Academy Fine Arts Department is celebrating a fantastic year with a record nine
student art pieces winning Gold Key awards in the prestigious Scholastic Art and Writing Awards
program. In addition, students received eleven Silver Key Awards and eight Honorable Mentions.
The program is the longest-running, most prestigious educational initiative supporting student
achievement in the visual and literary arts in the United States. The Gold Key Scholastic Art Award
is the highest achievement in the awards program.
Four students received a Gold Key for their artwork. These pieces will continue to the national
competition and winners will be announced later in the year:
• Frankie Fogarino ’28 - Polaroid (photography), Free as a Feather (photography) & The
Difference of Us (photography)
• Remy Marty ’26 – Mina in 2017 (painting), Cherry Blossom Egg Pot (ceramics) & Turtle
Teapot (ceramics)
• Bryce Paramore ’26 – Fox in the Snow (photography)
• Jake Pritchett ’27 – Earring Shine (photography) & Atlanta Run Club Post Celebration

In addition to the Gold and Silver Awards, seven students received eight Honorable Mentions:

• Ben Warner ’27 – The Escape (photography) & The Lava Tube (photography)“There are an average of 6,000 pieces submitted from an average of 600 high schools in
Georgia this year,” according to Upper School art teacher Luke Graves. “Gold winners represent
only the top 1-2%, and Silver is the top 3-4%. The Scholastic Awards are the biggest and the best
competition in the state. It’s also impressive that we had awards in multiple mediums including
painting, ceramics, jewelry, and photography!”
The Gold and Silver Key awards are part of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Program
and are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers as part of its annual contest.
According to their website, their mission is to “identify students with exceptional artistic and
literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art and Writing
Awards.”
