GDOT Projects Awarded Across East & Central Georgia
Thursday, January 29th, 2026
The Georgia Department of Transportation recently awarded new contracts for projects in the agency’s east-central Georgia district. Please note, start dates for these projects have not been set yet.
The largest contract, valued at $18.68 million, will replace a bridge in Lincoln County on SR 220 over Soap Creek, part of Clarks Hill Lake. The existing structure, built in 1952, is substandard. The new bridge will be built to modern design standards. The new structure will also be raised approximately 15 feet to provide more than 20 feet of vertical clearance over full pool, allowing for larger boat access under the new bridge.
An off-site detour is planned. This will allow the contractor to construct the new bridge on the existing alignment and complete construction faster. The road is expected to close for 18 months. A start date for the closure has not been determined.
E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc. has been awarded this project. Completion is estimated for summer 2028.
In Putnam County, US 441 Business/US 129 Business will be resurfaced in Eatonton. E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc. has been awarded a $1.44 million project to resurface approximately 3.7 miles of the route. The entire business route through Eatonton will be resurfaced, with the project beginning and ending at US 441. Completion is estimated for fall 2026.
In Richmond County, SR 104 will be resurfaced in downtown Augusta. Approximately 0.9 miles of the route will be resurfaced. Reynolds St. and Jones St. will each be resurfaced from 13th St. to 15th St. E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc. has been awarded this $493 thousand project. Completion is estimated for fall 2026.
