Two Local Cafes Announce Plans to Close

Local Athens market Birdies announced on Instagram Sunday that it will be ceasing operations by the end of the year, citing “rising costs and economic uncertainty” as reasons for its closure. The award-winning Prince Avenue shop, known for its coffee, sandwiches and specialty groceries, will close Dec. 28 after two years of business.

“We have barely kept our head above water these past two years, and there is no pathway to profitability in this current climate of rising costs and economic uncertainty,” the post said. “We are committed to working out the rest of the month at full capacity, and hope that you will consider us as a holiday shopping and dining destination
