Discipler, a product that handles intake, matching and follow-up for church mentorship, won the top prize at the UGA Entrepreneurship Idea Accelerator.

James Harden, a pre-business management student at the Terry College of Business, developed Discipler’s church mentorship process and presented it at the Nov. 20 Idea Accelerator Demo Day pitch contest at Studio 225. His top pitch earned first place and a $2,500 award from the panel of judges.

The judges awarded second place to Ten Events, a venture providing custom wedding stationery and event rentals for cohesive, elevated celebrations. Third place went to Athens Scoop, a weekly email that shares news, events and deals to more than 3,500 readers. Tenley Pelissier, an advertising student at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, created Ten Events, while Andrew Sharpe, a Terry College finance and management information systems major, created Athens Scoop.

In all, seven teams competed, including:

  • Ledgers Consulting, which offers consulting and support for property management accounting software, created by Terry MIS student Matthew Schwanekamp

  • MACHOBOX, a monthly subscription box for biohacking and wellness product discovery, created by Terry finance student Joshua Mattison

  • Subleasa, which helps college students sublease their apartment or house, created by Juvis Mbeng, a PhD candidate in physics

  • TextureAlign, a guide offering personalized hair care routines to meet individual budget and goals, created by Terry economics student Lauren Johnson

The Idea Accelerator is sponsored by the UGA Entrepreneurship Program, whose mission is to help develop the mindset of future entrepreneurs and prepare students for leadership roles. The program is open to any UGA or community team.
