AT&T adds a new cell site to expand 5G coverage and capacity in Barrow County, helping residents, businesses and public safety on FirstNet® get more from their mobile devices.

A new site in Carl boosts coverage west of Winder along U.S. Route 29 and Carl-Midway Church Road.

“Barrow County is committed to promoting a high quality of life for all residents, and that includes the reinforcement of digital infrastructure across the county,” said Pat Graham, Barrow County Chairman. “We appreciate AT&T’s continued investment in Barrow County and their commitment to connecting our communities with reliable, high-speed internet.”

AT&T 5G brings fast, reliable and highly secure connectivity to more than 315 million people in over 26,900 cities and towns nationwide, including Carl. This helps Georgia residents and businesses get the best possible experience over the AT&T network wherever they live, work and play.

These enhancements also bring Band 14 spectrum to the area. Band 14 is high-quality spectrum dedicated to FirstNet®—the only nationwide communications network built with and for public safety. In emergencies, this band – or lane - can be cleared and locked exclusively for FirstNet subscribers. When not in use by FirstNet subscribers, AT&T customers can enjoy Band 14’s added coverage and capacity.

Created by the U.S. Congress after 9/11 and built by AT&T in public-private partnership with the FirstNet Authority, FirstNet is the only nationwide communications platform purpose-built for public safety.

From 2020 to 2024, AT&T invested more than $16.9 billion in our wireless and wireline networks in Georgia to boost reliability, coverage, speed and overall performance for residents and businesses.

“At AT&T, we know how important it is for our customers to stay connected. We are proud to invest in Barrow County with the wireless infrastructure necessary to connect in today’s digital world,” said Brian Barfield, Regional Director of External Affairs, AT&T Georgia. “With expanded access to AT&T 5G, our customers will be able to experience better network connectivity that will help with virtual learning, business growth and connecting with one another.”
