Thursday, November 6th, 2025
Athens Academy is pleased to announce that Director of Finance and Operations Alan Weiler has been honored with the Leadership Through Service Award by the Mid-South Independent School Business Officers (MISBO). The award was presented at their annual conference, October 22-24, 2025, in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Leadership Through Service Awards honors “those who not only excel in their own work, but who also elevate those around them, generously share their time and expertise, and strengthen independent schools and our MISBO community in the process.”
Alan joined the Athens Academy staff in 2016 and has 30 years of independent school experience. He previously held DFO positions at St. Paul’s School (FL), Oak Hill Classical School (GA), the Howard School (GA), and the Alexander Dawson School (NV). Raised in Norcross, Georgia, he is a graduate of North Georgia College and received his MBA from Brenau University. Alan also currently serves as a member of the MISBO Board of Directors.
According to MISBO President Damian Kavanagh, “Alan is the kind of leader who would never seek recognition for himself, which makes honoring him all the more meaningful. His colleagues describe him as a steadfast resource who quietly and consistently lifts others up.
Independent schools are stronger because of Alan’s leadership, and MISBO is proud to call him one of our own.” Congratulations, Spartan!
