Jason Matthews, a longtime senior lecturer in the J.M. Tull School of Accounting at the Terry College of Business, was appointed director of the University of Georgia’s Full-Time MBA and Master of Science in Business Analytics programs.
He replaces Santanu Chatterjee, who has served as the program director for the Full-Time MBA and later the MSBA program since 2014, before taking over as the Terry College’s interim dean in July this year.
Terry’s Full-Time MBA program has achieved international recognition over the last decade. The program was ranked the No. 1 value for the money globally by the Financial Times in 2024 and 2025. The program placed No. 11 among public business schools and No. 29 overall in the 2025 U.S. News & World Report survey. This marked the eighth consecutive year the survey ranked the Terry’s Full-Time MBA among the top 20 public programs.
“Jason is an accomplished and beloved teacher in the MBA program and brings extensive leadership experience to this role,” said Chatterjee, interim dean of the Terry College of Business. “I know that with Jason joining the team, we are in good hands.”
Matthews, who joined UGA as an accounting lecturer in 2007, has served as senior lecturer and director of the undergraduate programs since 2017. In addition to his work teaching advanced accounting to undergraduates, he also taught financial accounting to Full-Time and professional MBA students for almost two decades. He has won multiple teaching awards for work with graduate and undergraduate students.
“I’m incredibly honored to be asked to step up and lead our world-class Georgia MBA and MSBA programs,” Matthews said. “My time at UGA has always been about preparing students to achieve their career goals. I’m excited to continue that mission and help guide the next generation of UGA MBA and MSBA students on their paths to success.”
Before returning to academia, Matthews served as a corporate financial officer for several firms, including the Oculan Corp., United Coal Company, and Roark Capital Group. He has been a certified management accountant since 2003.
He received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Missouri State University in 2000, his Master of Accountancy in 2006 from North Carolina State University, and his Ph.D. in business administration in accounting from the University of Georgia in 2012. Matthews started his role as the director of the Full-Time MBA and MSBA programs on Oct. 7.
