Public Input Sought on Stonehenge Pedestrian Improvements
Thursday, August 14th, 2025
The Capital Projects Department invites residents to provide input through August 31, 2025, on potential improvement projects to help enhance safety, accessibility, and connectivity along old Monroe Road and accompanying streets in the Stonehenge neighborhood. Funding of $3.2 million will come from the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) 2023 voter-approved program through Project #17 – Stonehenge Neighborhood Area Pedestrian Improvements.
The project webpage at www.accgov.com/stonehenge includes details on possible projects, reference material, and a public input survey link that will be open through August 31. Residents can also sign up for email and text notifications in order to receive information about key future dates and opportunities for additional input.
In addition to the online survey, an open house session is scheduled for Wednesday, August 27 at Fire Station #2 (265 Cleveland Road) in the community room from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Anyone can drop in during these times to ask questions of Capital Projects staff and provide input on the proposed projects.
Approximately $3.2 million has been designated for the Stonehenge pedestrian improvements through TSPLOST funds. Depending upon actual costs and funding availability, improvements may include, but are not limited to, connecting sidewalks, safe crossings, landscaping, signage, lighting, and other safety improvements.
Some projects under consideration include: an ADA compliant sidewalk, traffic calming measures, and bike facilities on Old Monroe Road; streetlighting, ADA ramp improvements at existing sidewalks, and ADA compliant crosswalks at neighborhood entrances; ADA compliant sidewalks along primary neighborhood streets; speed control measures around the community center; an ADA compliant sidewalk along Alterstone Drive; and other measures.
The Mayor and Commission are tentatively scheduled to vote on a final project concept at their October 7 Regular Session.
