North Oconee River Greenway Trail Expansion Open House on Sept. 4, Public Input through Oct. 5
Tuesday, August 26th, 2025
The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government (ACCGov) Leisure Services Department and Capital Projects Department invite residents to provide comments on a proposed expansion of the North Oconee River Greenway Trail along Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway from North Avenue to 1st Street.
A public information open house is scheduled for Thursday, September 4 at the Lyndon House Arts Center (211 Hoyt St.) from 5:00-7:00 PM. Anyone can drop in during this time to ask questions of project staff and provide input on the proposed design. In addition, project information and an online comment form open through October 5 is available at www.accgov.com/leisureserviceslistens.
The project includes construction of a 10- to 12-foot-wide multi-use trail along Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway from the North Avenue intersection Greenway connection to the 1st Street / East Broad Street intersection connection to Dudley Park. The shared-use path would be approximately 0.7 miles long and consist of a combination of concrete and boardwalk.
Approximately $2.5 million has been designated to fund this trail section as part of the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) 2023 program's Project #11: East Athens MLK Parkway Oconee River Greenway Trail.
