University of Georgia Names New University Spokesperson

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Monday, July 7th, 2025

The University of Georgia has announced that Rod Guajardo, Assistant to the President, will assume an expanded role as University Spokesperson, effective July 1. In this capacity, Guajardo will serve as UGA’s primary media contact for institutional responses and official public statements.

Guajardo joined the Office of the President 18 months ago and has since provided strategic leadership on student-related issues and a range of university-wide initiatives. In his newly expanded role, he will work closely with the Marketing and Communications team at UGA and partners across campus to coordinate timely and consistent messaging on matters of public interest.

This transition coincides with a new role for Greg Trevor, who has served as University Spokesperson for nearly a decade. Trevor will become Public Safety Communications and Outreach Coordinator, reporting to the Associate Vice President for Public Safety in the Finance and Administration Division. In this new role, Trevor will focus on campus safety communications and enhance his involvement in emergency preparedness and training exercises—a critical area where his expertise and leadership will continue to benefit our UGA community.

Before joining the President’s Office, Guajardo served as Director of Integrated Media Communications at UGA, where he managed media relations efforts across the institution and led a team devoted to highlighting the accomplishments of students, faculty, and staff across a variety of channels and platforms. Prior to joining UGA, he served as News and Media Relations Director at the University of Mississippi, where he led strategic media relations efforts and managed crisis communications. Earlier, he served as Editor of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, the second largest newspaper in Mississippi, and news editor of The Natchez (MS) Democrat.

Guajardo earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Auburn University and his master’s degree in integrated marketing communications from the University of Mississippi. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in higher education from UGA’s Louise McBee Institute of Higher Education.
