The Athens-Clarke County Planning Commission discussed short-term rentals, the city’s affordable housing crisis, a new bar, a new library and parking at a five-hour long session on Thursday, April 3.

The text amendment regarding short-term rentals sought to extend their sunset periods from two to five years to allow rental operators additional time to recoup their investment, providing owners with a relief valve mechanism that allows them to demonstrate specific investment recovery needs and give more flexibility than the original two-year cut off.
