On Monday, March 10, the Foothills Regional High School Governing Board voted unanimously to approve Dr. Dale Simpson as the next Foothills superintendent, effective July 1, 2025. Dr. Simpson, who has been serving as the Foothills assistant superintendent since 2022, brings extensive leadership experience and a strong commitment to student success.

During his tenure at Foothills, Dr. Simpson has been committed to expanding educational access, increasing student engagement, and building community partnerships that enhance learning opportunities. His efforts have played a pivotal role in improving the number of graduates by over 37%, navigating legislative advocacy efforts, and launching innovative workforce training programs in partnership with local and state organizations.

"Dr. Simpson's leadership and unwavering commitment to student success make him the ideal candidate for superintendent," said Dr. Robbie Hooker, Clarke County School District superintendent and Foothills Governing Board chairman. "We are confident that under his direction, Foothills will thrive and continue expanding non-traditional learning opportunities to students across Georgia. His vision, experience, and passion for education will build on the strong foundation set by Dr. Gibney-Sherman, and we look forward to working with him in this new role."

Dr. Simpson began his education career in 2011 as a high school business teacher, serving in Fulton and Jackson Counties before moving into leadership as an assistant principal at Jackson County High School. From 2016-2022, Dr. Simpson served in various leadership roles in Barrow County, including assistant principal at Holsenbeck Elementary, chief executive officer at Sims Academy of Innovation and Technology and principal of the Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy. Before joining Foothills full-time in 2022, Dr. Simpson served as a part-time graduation coach and the director of data and accountability.

Dr. Simpson holds a bachelor's degree, master's degree, and doctorate from the University of Georgia.

"I am thankful to the Governing Board for this opportunity and look forward to working with our incredibly talented team to ensure that every student has the opportunity to graduate ready for their future, including those who need a different pathway toward graduation," said Dr. Dale Simpson.

Dr. Simpson will assume full responsibilities for the role on July 1, succeeding Dr. Sherrie Gibney-Sherman, who is stepping down after a distinguished career of nearly 50 years in Georgia's public education system, including a decade as superintendent at Foothills.
