WorkSource Georgia’s Rapid Response Team to Assist Chico’s Employees
Monday, February 3rd, 2025
To help employees impacted by the upcoming closure of Chico’s Distribution Center in Barrow County, WorkSource Georgia’s Rapid Response team is partnering with the company to establish a new onsite transition center that will be open until the center closes later in the Spring. This temporary center will serve as a customized resource hub, providing comprehensive job support and resources to employees as they prepare to find new employment or enter other career paths. The Chico’s organization announced the closure of the Winder facility in November 2024.
The transition center offers affected employees a range of services, including retraining and job search assistance, resume writing workshops, access to GED or high school diploma opportunities as well as English as a Second Language (ESL) resources.
In addition to the onsite transition center, WorkSource Georgia will also host a two-day job fair on site February 6 and 7 where Chico’s employees will be able to meet face-to-face with local employers. An estimated 22 companies are expected to attend with industries ranging from healthcare to distribution and more.
Deputy Commissioner for TCSG’s Office of Workforce Development Karen Kirchler says the economic well-being of Georgia is incumbent on industry and community partners working together to help people when a company makes job force reductions or closes its doors.
“Georgia is consistently a leader in job creation, and despite the closure, there are many opportunities available. To ensure these folks can smoothly move into another career, our team is working closely with Chico’s, WorkSource Northeast Georgia, Lanier Technical College, and other TCSG schools, as well as countless industry and community partners,” Kirchler said. “The level of support is phenomenal because we know that those directly affected are the backbone of a thriving Georgia economy.”
