Oconee Atop List for Counties with Best Public Schools in America

Oconee County has been ranked No. 1 in the United States for county school systems by Niche.
A ranking and review site, Niche placed Oconee County atop its 2024 Counties with the Best Public Schools in America list as it unveiled its 2024 Best Places rankings.
“We are incredibly proud of and humbled to be part of this No. 1 ranking on the national level,” Superintendent Jason Branch said. “This reflects the tireless work of our incredible students and dedicated teachers and staff, as well as the support of families and community. Our schools play a vital role in shaping the future of Oconee County, and we remain committed to providing a world-class education with a small-town feel.”
Earlier this year, Oconee County Schools was ranked by Niche No. 1 in Georgia among county districts for the sixth straight year and for the 11th time overall. Niche also previously cited OCS on its Best Teachers and Best Places To Teach lists for Georgia.
OCS is made up of seven elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools.
Oconee County received additional national ratings by Niche: No. 4 for Best Counties For Families; No. 5 for Best Counties To Buy A House; and No. 9 for Best Counties In Which to Live.
