Tuesday, February 4th, 2025
Athens Academy is pleased to announce that several faculty members have been awarded an EmPOWERment Grant from Walton EMC in the amount of $7,779. The grant will allow the school to make further enhancements to the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) programming across all grade levels.
According to the application for this grant, “This proposal combines multiple needs across three of Athens Academy’s divisions in the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools. The equipment and materials support engineering/woodworking classes in our middle school, robotics and technology classes in lower, middle, and upper schools, and math manipulative needs in lower and middle schools.”
On Monday, February 3, representatives from Walton EMC came to the Athens Academy campus to deliver the good news. Jennifer Broun and Pete Irvine presented the grant to Head of School John Thorsen, Director of Academic Affairs Diana Murdock, and Upper School Director Susan Zalac.
According to their website, Walton EMC’s School EmPOWERment Grant program “offers educational grants to schools and classroom teachers for a myriad of uses that further instructional programs.”
