Public Input on College Square Plaza Improvements through Jan. 3
Wednesday, December 4th, 2024
The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government (ACCGov) and Athens Downtown Development Authority (ADDA) invite residents to provide input on a redevelopment plan for the downtown College Square Plaza.
Two drop-in open house sessions are scheduled in December for residents to learn more about the improvements and provide feedback with the project team. The sessions will be held:
- Monday, December 9 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Dougherty Street Government Building Auditorium (120 W. Dougherty Street)
- Tuesday, December 17 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Dougherty Street Government Building Auditorium (120 W. Dougherty Street)
Comments will also be accepted through an online form available on www.accgov.com/collegesquarethrough January 3, 2025. The webpage also contains additional project information, including a recording of the presentation to the Mayor and Commission at their September 10, 2024, Work Session and an overall design framework document.
TSPLOST 2023 has $500,000 designated for the project, which may include improved paving, removing barriers and gaps in accessibility, enhanced seating, lighting, pavement changes, and/or stormwater improvements. The majority of project funding will come through ADDA. Project construction funds are expected to come from the ADDA through financing, parking revenue, and other options.
The current timeline, subject to change, has the Mayor and Commission approving a schematic design in spring 2025, construction beginning in fall 2025, and project completion in fall 2026.
