Athens Academy Performance Benefits Animal Organization

Athens Academy's Drama Club and the cast and crew of the one act play Circus Train has
raised $483 for the Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). The students designated PAWS as
the recipient of the donations to the annual One Act Play Benefit Night Performance, which was
held on October 29, 2024.
The money raised from this performance of Circus Train will go to the care of retired circus
animals in the sanctuary. The company of the play Zoomed with a member of the PAWS
organization on November 1, 2024, to present them with the money.
Circus Train is an original one-act play written and directed by Athens Academy Drama
Department Chair Lorraine Thompson. The play is based on a real-life train crash that happened on
November 22, 1915, six miles outside of Columbus, Georgia. The show ran October 17-19 & 29. The
cast and crew also hosted and competed in the GHSA One Act Play competition on Saturday,
November 2.
