Each year, people across the United States come together on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday to observe the only federal holiday that is designated as a National Day of Service. 2025 marks the 23rd year of the MLK Day of Service in Athens.

Each year, hundreds of volunteers make Martin Luther King, Jr. Day “A Day On and Not a Day Off” at a variety of community project sites. This year, the Athens MLK Day of Service Steering Committee is looking for project sites as well as local funds to make those projects more meaningful and sustainable.

Local organizations that would like to be considered as a 2025 MLK Day of Service volunteer project site are encouraged to submit an application. The online application will be open through November 15 at www.accgov.com/mlkday. Further instructions and eligibility requirements are included on the application.
