New "Screenagers" Movie at Athens Academy

Athens Academy is pleased to host two screenings of the new documentary, Screenagers: Elementary Edition, which is recommended viewing for parents of children from preschool-age through sixth grade. Everyone in the local community is welcome to attend these events.

There are two show times on Monday, October 21, at 8:15 a.m. and at 5:30 p.m., in the Harrison Center Performance Hall on the Athens Academy campus. Complimentary childcare will be available for the 5:30 p.m. (click here to reserve childcare). Please note that childcare is open to children who are at least three years of age and fully potty-trained. Screenagers: Elementary Edition addresses such important current topics as the impact of too much screentime, social media pressures, problems with early exposure to cell phones, unhooking from and monitoring video game use, and smartwatches at school.

At the movie screening, parents will learn more about strategies for families, including:

• Weekly Family Tech Talks to open a regular dialogue about technology

• How to safeguard your child’s sleep time

• Making good choices about video gaming

• “Wait Until 8th” and other tips on delaying access to social media until eighth grade or later

• Managing access to devices during homework times

• “Away for the Day” and the importance of limiting access to devices during the school day
