Jonathan “Buck” Sims named Georgia SWANA Solid Waste Worker of the Year!

The Athens-Clarke County (ACC) Solid Waste Department is thrilled to announce that Jonathan “Buck” Sims, Collection Division Driver III, has been awarded the prestigious Solid Waste Worker of the Year at the joint Georgia SWANA/Georgia Recycling Coalition Conference held in Jekyll Island, GA on September 18, 2024.

Jonathan's remarkable career spans over 22 years with the ACC Solid Waste Department, where he has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication, leadership, and a positive attitude. His ability to operate all Collection Division trucks and equipment, along with his commitment to mentoring new drivers, has made a significant impact on our operations.

In addition to his regular duties, Jonathan's willingness to work overtime—logging an impressive 935.50 hours between August 2023 and August 2024—ensured that our community received the high-quality services they deserve. His teamwork and communication skills have been vital to the success of his work unit, which maintains eight recycling drop-off sites and manages commercial trash and recycling services.

Jonathan also fosters community spirit through events such as the Solid Waste picnics, which he has organized and catered, including cooking for his colleagues on his birthday.

This award recognizes Jonathan's invaluable contributions and unwavering commitment to excellence within the Solid Waste Department. We are incredibly proud of his achievements and grateful for his dedication to serving our community.
