Dr. Kathleen Herring joins St. Mary’s Internal Medicine Associates

Dr. Kathleen Herring, a primary care physician who is board-certified in internal medicine, has joined St. Mary’s Internal Medicine Associates (SIMA). She is now accepting new patients, with same-day or next-day appointments available in many cases.

Dr. Herring comes to St. Mary’s Medical Group from Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem, N.C., where she has served as Chief Resident for the past year. As Chief Resident, she supervised other resident physicians in outpatient offices and urgent care settings. She also led teams of residents, interns and medical students on inpatient wards in the hospital and provided hospitalist cross-coverage from 2022 until joining St. Mary’s. 

Dr. Herring received her Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. She then completed a year of postbaccalaureate education at the University of Georgia (UGA) before earning her medical degree from the Augusta University/UGA Medical Partnership in Athens. She went on to complete a medical internship and her internal medicine residency at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Internal Medicine Residency Program. 

The physicians at SIMA work to create relationships with patients that promote trust and open communication, whether the patient has an ordinary cold or a complex chronic condition. They provide  wellness and routine sick care for adults age 18 and over, including ordering tests, diagnosing problems, prescribing medication and referring patients to specialists when needed.

St. Mary’s Internal Medicine Associates is located at 2470 Daniells Bridge Road, Bldg. 200, Suite 231, Athens, inside The Exchange near Loop 10 and the Oconee Connector. Dr. Herring will be seeing patients in SMIMA’s expansion space, located in Building 300 of The Exchange. 

As part of St. Mary's Medical Group, SIMA accepts most major insurance plans, Medicare, and Georgia Medicaid products. The practice offers virtual visits for certain provider appointments.
