Piedmont Athens Regional Oconee Health Campus Hosts Annual School Nurse Skills Day
Thursday, August 15th, 2024
More than 100 Barrow, Clarke, and Oconee County school nurses, paraprofessionals, and special education teachers recently attended the Nurse Skills Day 2024 at the Piedmont Athens Regional Oconee Health Campus. This is the second year Piedmont Athens has offered the event with the goal of helping attendees get up to date on their skills and feel comfortable going into the school year.
“We really enjoy the opportunity to work with local educators and staff to support their students,” said Piedmont Athens Regional Oconee Health Campus Executive Director Delena Brockmann. “The Nurse Skills Day gives us a chance to come together with our community to make sure those taking care of the kids in their schools have all of the resources and skills they need to make a positive difference in the lives of each student.”
Prior to the event, Piedmont Athens leadership works with the schools to determine what the most common needs the students have and then tailor the curriculum to cover those areas. Piedmont Athens clinical staff provide resources and hands-on training, ensuring school staff are confident when assisting their students. This year’s curriculum included education in respiratory, rashes and wounds, diabetes education, speech pathology, Stop the Bleed, head injuries and neurological checks, emergency seizure medicine, GI tubes and lines, clean catheters, orthopedic injuries, and ear assessments.
Piedmont Athens Regional is proud to partner with schools in the communities we serve to empower faculty and staff in providing a healthy environment for students. If your school or school system is interested in partnering with Piedmont Athens Regional, please contact Paige Mitchell at 470.825.5918 or [email protected].
