Tuesday, August 20th, 2024
Dr. Alexander Duggan, a primary care physician who is board-certified in family medicine, will join St. Mary’s Family Medicine on Aug. 19. He is now accepting new patients, with some same-day or next-day appointments now available.
Dr. Duggan comes to St. Mary’s Medical Group from Memorial Health-HCA in Savannah, where he recently completed his three-year Family Medicine residency, including serving a year as Chief Resident, a post to which he was elected by his peers in the residency program. He was also honored as Resident
of the Year. Joining St. Mary’s Medical Group brings Dr. Duggan back to Athens and St. Mary’s. He attended the University of Georgia, graduating in 2014 as a “Double Dawg” with bachelor’s degrees in biology and psychology. During his time at UGA, he volunteered with St. Mary’s as a transporter and with the Athens Community Council on Aging’s Meals on Wheels program.
After graduating from UGA, Dr. Duggan earned a master’s degree in preclinical science at Mercer University School of Medicine before going on to earn his doctor’s degree in medicine, also at Mercer. Dr. Duggan is a strong believer in community service. In addition to his volunteer work in Athens, he served in a variety of volunteer roles in medical school, including providing health screenings, COVID vaccinations and care for the homeless at locations in and around Savannah. He also volunteered with the Medical College of Georgia Family Medicine Clinic to help optimize patient satisfaction and productivity.
He joins Dr. Devin Stephens, nurse practitioners Jennifer Sutherland and Christine Harr, and the staff at St. Mary’s Family Medicine at 1181 Langford Drive, Building 300, Suite 103, Watkinsville, and provides full-spectrum family medicine services for patients of all ages, including newborns. As part of St. Mary's Medical Group, St. Mary’s Family Medicine accepts most major insurance plans, Medicare and Georgia Medicaid products. The practice also offers virtual visits for certain provider appointments. You can make a new patient appointment by calling (706) 208-8038 or by using St. Mary’s online scheduling tool at www.stmarys-health.org.
