Athens Academy Students Recognized by College Board

Athens Academy is pleased to announce that three students have been recognized by the College Board this fall: Oswaldo Jara-Rivera (Class of 2025) by the National First-Generation Recognition Program; Emiliana Korin (Class of 2026) by the National Hispanic Recognition Program; and DJ Street (Class of 2026) by the National African American Recognition Program. These students will retain these honors throughout the remainder of their high school careers.

To qualify for this recognition, the student must have a GPA of B+ and must identify as Black/African American, Latino/Hispanic, Indigenous/Native, first-generation college student, or attend high school in a rural area or small town. They must also be in the top 10% among PSAT 10 and PSAT/NMSQT test takers in 11th grade in their state for their award program.

According to the College Board website, these programs offer a “tangible way to recognize the academic achievements of rural area/small town, African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Indigenous/Native American, and (new in 2024) first-generation students.”

Oswaldo is the son of Lupita Rivera and Jose Jara of Athens. Emiliana is the daughter of Ana Maria Lopez and Ezequiel Korin of Athens. DJ is the son of Marlana and Derron Street of Watkinsville.
