The Athens Community Council on Aging is working to help prevent seniors falling prey to scammers. The ACCA is hosting Scam Jam 2024 on August 26^th from 10 am until 2 pm. Organizers say today’s digital age sees older adults increasingly targeted by fraudulent schemes. Louise Platter is the benefits Counseling Coordinator at the ACCA. She explains what attendees can expect.

“Scam Jam is an event for the entire community to learn from experts in industries that we’re seeing get routinely targeted by scammers,” Platter said. “We’re got representatives from credit unions, the ACCPD, Federal Trade Commission, just different places where we’re seeing a lot of fraudulent activity targeting our seniors.”
