Dr. Jason Branch, the Superintendent for Oconee County Schools, was reappointed to the Board of Trustees of the Teachers Retirement System of Georgia by Governor Brian Kemp on Monday.
Additionally, Branch has been chosen as the Georgia School Superintendents Association recipient of the Jim Puckett Outstanding Educator Award by the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders.
"I am honored that Governor Kemp has given me the opportunity to continue serving in this capacity, which allows me to advocate for the needs and well-being of the state’s dedicated educators," Branch said. "The Puckett Award is a testament to the collective efforts of our educational community, so it is a recognition for all of Oconee County Schools."
As vice chair, Branch will be serving a third term on the TRS Board of Trustees. He was first appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue and has now been reappointed twice by Governor Kemp. TRS oversees a $107 billion fund that serves 500,000 members.
The Jim Puckett Outstanding Educator Award is presented annually to one person from each of the seven GAEL affiliates who personifies the leadership qualities modeled by former executive director Dr. Jim Puckett. Branch served as GSSA president for 2023-24.
Branch recently began his 13th year as the OCS Superintendent.
