Georgia Optometric Association Names Dr. Nadine Humen Forche as President Athens Optometrist Selected by Peers for Leadership Position

Dr. Nadine Humen Forché of Five Points Eye Care in Athens was recently selected by her peers to serve as president of the board of trustees of the Georgia Optometric Association. Founded in 1904, the Georgia Optometric Association (GOA) is a statewide professional organization whose 700 members serve communities throughout the state and work to provide the public with quality vision and eye care services.

Dr. Forché has served as a trustee of the board of the Georgia Optometric Association and a past district president. In 2015, she received the GOA's Bernard L. Kahn Memorial Award for her service to the profession and patients. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and, in 2013, became a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry.

Active in her local community, Dr. Forché is a board member of Monsignor Donovan Catholic High School and past-president of the board of trustees of Nuci's Space, a nonprofit health and resource center for musicians whose mission is to prevent suicide and advocate for those living with brain illnesses. She also performs eye examinations for uninsured patients in the Athens area with Prevent Blindness Georgia and the Georgia Lions Lighthouse.

Dr. Forché is a graduate with honors from the University of Pennsylvania where she received her bachelor of arts degree in neurobiology. She received her doctorate in optometry from the Ohio State University College of Optometry. She completed her master's degree in physiological optics at the graduate school at the Ohio State University for research on the effects of Alzheimer's disease on the visual system.

She is a pre-optometry mentor for University of Georgia students, as well as the preceptor for optometry school externs from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry and the Ohio State University College of Optometry.
