Athens-Clarke Co Stormwater Utility Fee to Jump in July

Athens-Clarke County property owners will see an increase in their stormwater utility fees starting July 1, the first since the fee was implemented in 2005. The fees will climb from an average of $42 a year to $56 dollars annually. It’s an increase that was approved by Athens-Clarke County Commissioners earlier this year.

As of July 1, 2024, the Athens-Clarke County stormwater utility fee for properties will increase for the first time since it was implemented in 2005 in order to provide more sustainable, long-term funding for stormwater infrastructure. The stormwater utility fee can only be used on stormwater programs, which includes repairing and replacing old or failed culverts such as those on Olympic Drive, Barber Street, and Athena Drive in recent years.
