U.S. News & World Report has selected eight Oconee County schools for its 2024 Best Elementary Schools and Best Middle Schools rankings. 

U.S. News & World Report on Tuesday cited Colham Ferry Elementary, Dove Creek Elementary, High Shoals Elementary, Malcom Bridge Elementary, Oconee County Elementary, Rocky Branch Elementary, Malcom Bridge Middle, and Oconee County Middle for placing among the 40 percent in the state. 

“The recognition for these eight schools shines the light on the collaborative efforts of our students, educators, and families,” Superintendent Jason L. Branch said. “They consistently demonstrate the steadfast commitment to excellence that defines our district and provide an unparalleled educational experience while nurturing abilities, piquing curiosities, and making success a habit. Congratulations!”

Schools were assessed by U.S. News on their pupils’ proficiencies in mathematics and reading as measured by state assessment tests. Half of the ranking formula was the results; the other half was the results in the context of socioeconomic demographics. All data for the rankings are from third-party sources, including the U.S. Department of Education.
