Friday, October 6th, 2023

The annual Athens-Clarke County Downtown Parade of Lights is scheduled for Thursday, December 7 starting at 7:00 p.m.

This year’s theme is “An Art Filled Holiday.” Performing units will be judged during the parade as they arrive at the community tree and stage.    Entries will compete for such prizes as “Most Original Float,” “Best Use of Theme,” and “Best Use of Lights.”  The best overall float will receive the “Mayor’s Award.”

The parade will begin on the corner of Hancock Avenue and Pulaski Street, continue through downtown, culminating with Santa Claus lighting the Christmas Tree in front of City Hall.  The parade route map is available at www.accgov.com/parade ;

Renowned local artist Harold Rittenberry, Jr. will serve as the 2023 Parade Marshal.  He is best known in and around Athens for his majestic and whimsical metal sculptures. His work is iconic, as his imagery represents the joy of art, music, love, and nature in our community.

The Athens-Clarke County Downtown Parade of Lights is sponsored by the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government and the Athens Downtown Development Authority.
