Dr. Graham Mercier Joins Athens General & Colorectal Surgeons

Graham A. Mercier, MD, a board-eligible general surgeon who earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia, has joined Athens General and Colorectal Surgeons (AGCS), part of St. Mary's Medical Group, effective Sept. 1.

Dr. Mercier comes to AGCS with extensive training in minimally invasive surgical techniques, including robotic, endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures. His clinical interests include robotics, foregut surgery, minimally invasive hernia repair, surgery education and bariatrics.

Joining AGCS brings Dr. Mercier back to Athens. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he earned his bachelor’s degree cum laude in exercise and sport science. He went on to receive his medical education at the Mercer University School of Medicine, then completed his general surgery residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

He is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. He is certified in the DaVinci robotic surgical system, endoscopic surgery, laparoscopic surgery, and advanced trauma and cardiac life support. He will sit for his surgical board certification this year.

At AGCS, Dr. Mercier joins Drs. Sergio Mejias, Andrew Lawrence, Ryan Katz, Aaron Carr, and Brant Parramore. The practice has offices in Athens, Greensboro and Lavonia.

Dr. Mercier is now accepting appointments for surgical consultations at the AGCS main office, located at 1500 Oglethorpe Ave., Suite 2000, Athens. As part of St. Mary's Medical Group, AGCS accepts most major insurance plans and Medicare. A referral from a primary care physician is required by most insurance providers.
