University of Georgia students were welcomed back on campus this week for the start of the fall 2023 semester with a variety of events across campus.

The incoming freshman class of 2027 gathered on Dooley Field between the hedges Tuesday. Students gathered in Sanford Stadium where they heard from campus leaders, learned athletic cheers and checked off one of the first traditions - the “super G" class photo.   

CLASS OF 2027 STATS: 

• 6,200 incoming first-year students from nearly 43,500 applications

• 4.13 average weighted high school GPA

• The class includes 215 incoming Georgia valedictorians and salutatorians

• The class of 2027 represents students from 470 Georgia high schools, 143 Georgia counties, 45 states and 14 nations

• Approximately 81% of the first-year students are Georgia residents
