Tuesday, May 16th, 2023
At its Thursday, May 11 meeting, the Clarke County Board of Education approved the hire of O’Marr Curry as the new principal of Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary School, effective July 1. He will replace outgoing principal Dr. Bipul Singh.
Mr. Curry has over a decade of education experience — including nine years in the Clarke County School District — in both the classroom and administrative roles at the elementary school level and is currently in his third year as an assistant principal at Whitehead Road Elementary. He previously taught for six years at Alps Road Elementary in grades 3 and 5 and served as the school’s interim assistant principal at the start of the 2019-20 academic year. He also previously taught grades 2 and 3 at Midway Elementary School in DeKalb County.
“I am honored to be chosen as the next principal of Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary,” said Mr. Curry. “OAES has a rich history, strong community ties, and amazing people who are dedicated to the success of their students and school. I look forward to joining the Wildcat Nation on their journey to maximizing the academic and social-emotional growth of all students in collaboration with families, teachers, and community members.”
Mr. Curry holds a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Georgia, a master’s in Educational Leadership from Mercer University, and is a current Doctor of Philosophy student at Mercer.
“We are thrilled to have O’Marr Curry become the next principal of Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary,” said CCSD Superintendent Dr. Robbie Hooker. “We are confident that he will bring to OAES his track record of building strong, effective relationships with his colleagues, students, and families and that he will foster a safe and positive school environment that promotes academic rigor and high student achievement.”
