Athens Academy is pleased to announce that Thomas Meyer and Jackson Scruggs are the valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, for the Class of 2023. The class of 90 seniors will graduate on Sunday, May 21, at 4:00 p.m. at the Classic Center.

An Athens Academy student since Preschool, Thomas is the son of Henning Meyer and Shan-Ho Tsai of Athens. He is a National Merit Finalist and a member of the Cum Laude Society, the National Honor Society, and the Spanish Honor Society. During the Senior Honors Day ceremony in April, Thomas received the Faculty Award for Excellence. As a member of the Literary Team, he placed second in the region in the Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking category. He has been a member of the cross country and soccer teams all four years of high school. Thomas will be attending Cornell University this fall.

Jackson is the son of Lanier and Carrie Scruggs of Athens and has attended Athens Academy since Preschool. He is a National Merit Commended Student and a member of the Cum Laude Society, the National Honor Society, and the Spanish Honor Society. During the Senior Honors Day ceremony, Jackson received both the Scholar-Athlete Award and the Faculty Award for Excellence, and he has served on the Honor Council throughout Upper School. Jackson has competed on the cross country and track and field teams for all four years of high school, leading both teams to win state championships as team captain during his senior year. He will be attending Vanderbilt University this fall, where he will continue to compete in both cross country and track and field.
