Residents Invited to Provide Input on Solutions to Affordable Housing Challenges through May 31st

Staff Report

Wednesday, April 26th, 2023

The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government (ACCGov), in collaboration with HR&A Advisors, is seeking resident input on tools and solutions that could help meet Athens residents' increasing housing affordability challenges.

Community forums will be held on April 26 at the Athens-Clarke County Library from 4:00-6:30 PM and May 9 at the Athens Community Council on Aging from 10:00-11:30 AM. Additionally, residents may provide feedback online via www.accgov.com/arpa through May 31.

All input collected will help ensure community needs and priorities are reflected in the final Affordable Housing Investment Strategy. This document will lay out a roadmap for strategic investments and policy changes to improve availability of quality affordable rental housing and homeownership opportunities across Athens-Clarke County.

At the April 26 and May 9 events, ACCGov staff will present on housing needs identified to date, discuss a set of solutions currently being considered, and receive input from attendees. The events are open to the community and registration is not required.

The affordable housing community forums will take place:

  • Wednesday, April 26 from 4:00-6:30 PM at the Athens-Clarke County Library (2025 Baxter Street, Athens, GA 30601)
  • Tuesday, May 9 from 10:00-11:30 AM at the Athens Community Council on Aging (135 Hoyt Street, Athens, GA 30601)

Residents who are unable to attend the events in person may visit www.accgov.com/arpa to review the information and share feedback via an online survey through May 31.

Athens-Clarke County residents will also have the opportunity to provide feedback on the draft Affordable Housing Investment Plan during summer 2023 before it is presented to the Mayor and Commission for a vote in fall 2023.
