Local Nonprofit SafeD Athens Launches Website and Social Media
Thursday, February 16th, 2023
SafeD Athens’ mission is to ensure that the University of Georgia and surrounding community is clean and safe. The launch of a new website and social media presence will allow this mission to move forward.
SafeD Athens Inc. 501(c)(3) has 900 members of students, parents, faculty, staff, and concerned community members working to enhance safety and security infrastructure on the University of Georgia Athens campus and in the Athens broader community. UGA Parents for Safety and Security and its nonprofit extension SafeD Athens have been advocating for solutions since 2021. This has resulted in UGA adding $8.5 million towards safety and security. However, SafeD Athens is not done yet. Their website and full social media sites launch on February 15, 2023. The website emphasizes important research necessary to propose their unique solutions unavailable anywhere else. The stories of two beautiful student lives lost unnecessarily are told by courageous parents on the website, along with numerous other resources. They are why SafeD Athens does what it does and insist the community be proactive to protect students and the rest of Athens.
“Trauma from crime changes the trajectory of many students’ paths far too often. We are their voices,” says Lynn Gainous, co-founder, SafeD Athens Inc.
SafeD Athens calls on the entire Athens and UGA community to take part in its mission. It is an opportunity for anyone who shares the same safety and security goals to join and contribute their talents.
