Li, Huang Named 2023 STAR Students; Huckaby, Beebe Chosen As STAR Teachers

Michelle Li of North Oconee County High School and Victor Huang of Oconee County High School have been named the STAR Students for 2023.

The STAR Students are able to select their STAR Teachers, with Li picking Jackson Huckaby and Huang choosing Zach Beebe.

"Michelle and Victor are world-class student leaders and outstanding representatives of North Oconee High School and Oconee County High School,” Superintendent Jason L. Branch said. “We salute them for their dedication, vision, and resolve. The Li and Huang families are also to be commended for their unwavering educational support of these special young people. Great classrooms begin with great teachers, and Mr. Huckaby and Mr. Beebe certainly set the standard. This prestigious selection speaks to their singular impact on Michelle and Victor and on many, many others.” 

The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program honors Georgia's highest achieving high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development. The program is designed to recognize high school seniors who have the highest SAT score in their graduating class and meet all the other program requirements.

North Oconee High School

STAR Student – Michelle Li, daughter of daughter of Xiao Wang and Zhuhong Li

STAR Teacher – Jackson Huckaby, AP Calculus, senior class sponsor, boys golf head coach 

Oconee County High School

STAR Student – Victor Huang, son of Ruihua Dong and Guozhong Huang

STAR Teacher – Zach Beebe, English department chair, yearbook sponsor, assistant track coach
