Clarke County School District Announces Discounted Internet for Some Families
Monday, January 9th, 2023
Families of students in the Clarke County School District may be eligible to receive free or discounted internet service under the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), provided by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
The ACP provides a discount of up to $30 per month toward broadband service for eligible households. The benefit also provides up to a $100 per household discount toward a one-time purchase of a computer, laptop, or tablet if the household contributes more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase through a participating broadband provider.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
All households with a child who was approved to receive free or reduced-price school meals under the National School Lunch Program or the School Breakfast Program within the last 12 months, including children who attend schools participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), are eligible for ACP benefits.
CCSD is a CEP district; therefore, all families with children enrolled in the current school year are eligible.
Households are also independently eligible if:
-
their income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level ($55,500 for a family of four); or
-
a member of the household participates in certain other Federal benefit programs — including, among others, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), Medicaid, and Federal Public Housing Assistance.
HOW TO APPLY:
1. Download and save a copy of the CCSD CEP Letter to your computer or mobile device.
2. Log in to the CCSD Parent Portal and download a copy of the student’s schedule as proof of enrollment. This document will include the student’s name, school year, school location, and schedule. For detailed instructions on completing this step, click here. Click here if you need to create a Parent Portal account. If you already have a Parent Portal account, but forgot your password and need a reset, please send an email to [email protected]. Include your name, the student's name, and the student's date of birth in your email.
3. Go to AffordableConnectivity.gov to submit an application or print out a mail-in application.
4. Contact your preferred participating internet provider to select a plan and have the discount applied to your bill.
