Athens Academy hosted a FIRST Lego League (FLL) robotics tournament on Saturday, December 3, 2023. Eleven teams from all over the area competed, including teams from Oglethorpe Middle, East Jackson Middle, Stephens County Middle School, Lake Oconee Academy, a local homeschool team, and three Athens Academy teams. Over 200 people were in attendance to compete or watch the tournament.

Athens Academy’s Green (Grade 6) Team won the overall Core Values Award for the tournament: “This team displays extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit, knows they can accomplish more together than they could as individuals, and shows each other and other teams respect at all times.” The Green Team also placed third in the Robot Games event with a score of 200 points.

The Silver Team (Grades 7 and 8) placed fourth in the Robot Games event with a score of 175 points. The White Team (Grade 5) also did well.

After more competitions are held over the next few weeks, this tournament’s teams will find out if they have qualified to continue on to the regional competition. Special thanks to the many Athens Academy Upper School robotics students who volunteered as judges and referees for this tournament.
