ACC Downtown Parade of Lights Set for December 1

The annual Athens-Clarke County Downtown Parade of Lights is scheduled for Thursday, December 1 starting at 7:00 p.m.

This year’s theme is “An Out of this World Holiday.” Performing units will be judged during the parade itself.  Entries will compete for such prizes as “Most Original Float,” “Best Use of Theme,” and “Best Use of Lights.”  The best overall float will receive the “Mayor’s Award.”  

The parade will begin on the corner of Hancock Avenue and Pulaski Street, continue through downtown, culminating with Santa Claus lighting the Christmas Tree in front of City Hall.  The parade route map is available at www.accgov.com/parade  

Dr. Maurice Snook, noted local astronomer and award winning volunteer, will serve as the 2022 Parade Marshal.  He has been an avid amateur astronomer for more than 70 years and during that time, he has founded two astronomy clubs.
